Spurs vs Arsenal, comment, debate and predictions

February 8, 2009 · 1 Comment

tottenham-vs-arsenalThe Official site today says that Harry Redknapp has issued a rallying call to his side ahead of today’s ‘massive’ North London derby with Arsenal at The Lane.

Harry Redknapp admitted that recent results away from home have been a disappointing, but is confident that we can beat anyone in front of our own fans at the Lane.

Reknapp is urging Spurs players to go out and express themselves against the Gunners, and get the three points he feels could turn our season around.

Spurs legend Glen Hoddle today has also stated his support for Redknapp and Spurs’ success in the second half of the season.

Glenn Hoddle believes that Harry Redknapp has the knowledge and manpower to ensure Tottenham will survive in the Premier League – and says they could even finish in the top six.

Glen Hoddle was part of the last Tottenham team to be relegated in 1977.

On the Official Site, Hoddle says:

“He has brought back Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Pascal Chimbonda and signed Wilson Palacios from Wigan.

“He has shown in the past at West Ham and Portsmouth that when he gets the team and the squad that he wants, he can be successful.

“Roman Pavlyuchenko is now adjusting and believe me, it does take time when you go to a different football culture.”

So what’s it going to be then?

Anything can happen in this derby – as we saw last time (Bentley had a good game for instance). With the arrival of Arshavin, who earlier this week said he was desperate to win medals with the Gunners, and Adebayor still yet to perform to his world class standard after his ‘dream’ move to Milan broke down, the Gunners are going to come out blazing. Moreover, they’ll desperately want revenge for what felt like a defeat back at the Emirates before Christmas.

But with the Tottenham team now more molded by Harry- the return of Keane, Chimbonda, and the new signing Palacios- and the need for points, Spurs too are looking more than up for it.

Prediction: 2-1

Robin Van Persie to score first, then Keane to equalise and Darren Bent to come off the bench and snatch the winner.

Also, Jenas will have an awesom game he always does againts the Gunners.
