Cudicini or Gomes: Spurs number one

February 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Carlo Cudicini has not joined Tottenham to make up the goalkeeping numbers.

Known as the “Octopus” at PSV, Gomes has finally started to show what he’s capable of between the posts after a shaky start (to say the least). But with the recent arrival of former Chelsea keeper Cudicini, who is going be Spurs number one!!??

The Hampstead & Highgate Express today report: The 35-year-old Italian, who ended a 10-year association with Chelsea when he moved to Spurs on a free transfer last week, is eager to wrestle the No.1 shirt from Heurelho Gomes.

After Cudicini was forced to play second fiddle to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge for the past past five seasons, he is looking to seize his chance to impress Harry Redknapp with two solid performances against Stoke and Bolton in the absence of the injured Gomes.

And with Gomes still struggling with that groin injury, and Redknapp reluctant to plunge young Ben Alnwick back into the spotlight, Cudicini has every chance of starting Sunday’s north London against Arsenal at the Lane as well.
